Particle engineering for inhalation.

A key aspect of inhalation development is the control of the properties of the API.

Obviously there needs to be a median aerodynamic diameter of c 3-5 um for treatment of asthma and COAD, and smaller sizes for systemic delivery or treatment of the deep lung.  Control and handling of small size materials can be difficult.

Pharmaterials can assist by optimizing the physical form and also by engineering the most suitable properties.  This can include altering porosity, surface energy, shape and size. We can explore the salt selection, polymorphs and processing methods, including:

• Air-jet milling (micronisation)
• Spray drying
• Freeze drying
• Controlled crystallization
• Inhalation powder blending
• Microfluidisation

Our goal is to make particles that are suitable for the delivery need and which can be manufactured on commercial scale with ease, to the desired specification.
